What is UROP?
UROP is the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme of RWTH Aachen University. It aims to provide RWTH students as well as excellent students from partner universities with the opportunity to carry out their own research projects under the guidance of experience RWTH researchers. Thus UROP supports the University's research activities and involves young academics in exciting research early on in their university career.
UROP is made up of three different program components each of them targeting another group of students: UROP International is for US and Canadian students who come to RWTH during the summer months for ten weeks. RWTH UROP gives RWTH’s undergraduate students the opportunity to carry out their own research projects at their home university’s facilities while the third component, UROP Abroad enables RWTH’s students to conduct research at North American universities or research institutions.
Following the navigation on the left you will find more detailed information on UROP International, RWTH UROP and UROP Abroad, and the UROP project database, where you can register with projects (for students) or make project proposals (for project supervisors and students). In our download section you can find lots of useful and interesting things preparing you for the program.

Who can participate and how?
Students
Depending on the UROP category, students from RWTH (RWTH UROP, UROP Abroad) or North American universities (UROP International) can take part. What these groups of students have in common is that students need to be undergraduates from their second year onwards (until the completion of the bachelor’s degree) while sharing the UROP experience. All participants can apply for scholarships. More information about how to become part of UROP at RWTH is available under the respective category in the menu on the left.
University Staff
All RWTH Aachen and North American university professors, post-docs, researchers and doctoral students can take advantage of having a UROP student support their current scientific work by offering a project from that field. There are no limitations to the kind of subject or faculty. If you would like to make a project proposal please go to the UROP database. For more information on the different UROP components please check the menu on the left.
Buddies
RWTH students are given the opportunity to join the Buddy program and become a buddy of a UROP International student! Get to know a foreign culture by meeting people from that culture, enhance your knowledge of the English language or simply enjoy spending time with our North American guests, showing them around town and helping them settle in or taking part in lots of UROP activities and events.
